CBS Outernet joins the Out-of-Home Video Advertising Bureau

Author: WireSpring on 2008-04-23 18:01:05

From this press release:

The Out-of-Home Video Advertising Bureau (OVAB) today announced the addition of three new members, including Arena Media Network, CBS Outernet and Zoom Media. These companies join a growing roster of out-of-home video advertising networks dedicated to promoting the adoption and use of their networks by the advertising community.

The new member companies include:
  • Arena Media Networks; the leading digital media network for advertising in sports and entertainment venues.
  • CBS Outernet; a leading provider of in-store digital video networks in highly targeted consumer environments, including grocery stores, pharmacies, and other retail locations., currently installed in approximately 1,500 stores nationwide.
  • Zoom Media; indoor network provider to over 5,000 venues, including fitness centers, indoor soccer facilities, bowling centers, family entertainment centers, restaurants and nightclubs.

Our take:

The OVAB is growing an impressive list of members, but has yet to produce a substantiative offering of any kind, as far as we are aware of right now. While we certainly applaud any effort to try and coordinate the myriad different kinds of out-of-home marketing projects, media and budgets, we continue to wait for the results of any research, standards or other offerings that the group is working on (and to be fair, WireSpring doesn't follow the group's activities closely, so there may be more than we are aware of right now).

Considering how much CBS Outernet has already invested in the digital out-of-home space (particularly with their acquisition of digital signage network company SignStorey in 2007, as well as their aggressive partnering with other national and regional networks), it is not at all surprising to see them join up, nor is it surprising that OVAB would make a big deal of the announcement, given how large they are.
