Access 360 Media Raises $8 Million to expand digital signage network

As TMCnet tells us:

Co-Investors Bessemer Venture Partners Join Series B Round, Funding to Accelerate Company Growth During Rapid Expansion of Digital Out-Of-Home Industry.

Access 360 Media (www.access360media.com), the nation's largest out-of-home media network reaching young adults, has raised $8 million in a Series B round funding led by Mission Ventures and joined by Bessemer Venture Partners. As a leader in the digital out-of-home (DOOH) industry, Access 360 Media will apply the new capital toward accelerating company growth to match the developing out-of-home industry's substantial rate of expansion and opportunity.

Our take:

Unfortunately the press release doesn't go into detail about the company's plans to use the new cash. Will it go towards capital expenditures for expansion (digital signage networks are expensive)? What about operations (since presumably any reasonably large company that was profitable enough to self-fund would be able to raise more than $8 million)? Access 360's access to younger audiences is somewhat unique in the industry (Walmart notwithstanding, since virtually everybody shops there at some point or other, regardless of age), however this audience's fickle nature combined with a propensity to save during economic hard times (yup, even teens can save) could limit growth options and return on investment for new expansions.
