WireSpring introduces V2.0 of FireCast Linux Kiosk Software

New software provides enhanced stability and remote management tools for self-service terminals.

August 14, 2002, FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.-- WireSpring Technologies, a developer of software for public information terminals, today announced the release of FireCast 2.0, the second generation of its Linux-based kiosk software suite. Version 2.0 represents a significant advance over previous FireCast releases and brings new levels of functionality to the kiosk industry's premier packaged Linux solution.

The FireCast software suite is a complete solution for building and managing public information terminals, such as self-service kiosks and digital signage systems. FireCast is the first packaged Linux-based solution for kiosks, and can easily be installed on standard PC hardware without any prior knowledge of Linux.

"We are very excited to bring FireCast 2.0 to market," said William Gerba, WireSpring's CEO. "FireCast allows companies to reap the benefits of a robust Linux architecture without the time or expense of developing their own kiosk operating system and remote management software. Based on customer feedback, version 2.0 integrates more smoothly into enterprise networks, provides enhanced control over kiosk behavior, and is even easier to use," Gerba added.

New features in FireCast 2.0 include:

- More powerful remote management: With a firewall-friendly remote updating system, FireCast is compatible with the vast majority of enterprise networks. The system also allows administrators to restart applications or reboot kiosks remotely.

- More robust web browser and multimedia players: User interfaces may now be changed on-the-fly, without interrupting current kiosk activity. Multimedia playback is now faster and more reliable.

- Enhanced printer support: FireCast now includes drivers for hundreds of laser and inkjet printers.

- Improved local control panel: Each kiosk now includes an enhanced local control panel, allowing changes to be made in a point-and-click fashion without any command-line knowledge.>

FireCast 2.0 is available immediately through a network of value-added resellers or directly from WireSpring.
